Forgive my absence here for the last few days.
Last Thursday, I had to say goodbye to Lucy, my best friend and constant companion for the last 18 years. I was so lucky to have her in my life for so long, but I am heartbroken that she is gone.
Lucy came into my life when I was a senior in high school in 1992. I’ll never forget watching her running and bouncing through the fields at my parents’ house in the country. She loved being a country dog for sure…chasing squirrels and rabbits through the fields.
She’s been through everything with me….multiple moves in college, new jobs, first dates and broken hearts, lots of road trips, hanging out with all my friends, buying my first home, and finally meeting and marrying the man of my dreams.
I’ll never, ever forget her. I am so thankful for the years I had with her.
This quote was in the newspaper a couple of days ago and it really speaks to me, “A good dog never dies. He always stays. He walks beside you on crisp autumn days when frost in on the fields and winter’s drawing near. His head is within our hand in his old way.” – Mary Carolyn Davies
I’ll be back to blogging sometime soon. Right now, I’m just taking some time to get through the days, and remember the good times we had together.
sorry to hear about lucy. take care!
Angie-
I’m so sorry for your loss. I know your fond memories of Lucy will be with you forever.

I’m so sorry for your loss! Losing a dog is heartbreaking… take your time to grieve, to remember the good times and to make her bed in your heart. Coz she’ll be there forever. Hugs!
So sorry for your loss. Take care of yourself…
Angie, I’m so sorry to hear about your loss
I have never had a dog for that long, so I can’t even imagine the loss that you feel. I hope you can find some things that will cheer you up. I loved the quote, it’s so true, even with humans.
Oh, Angie, I am so sorry. A good dog is a good friend and I know you must be hurting.
But I think that quote is so true; a good dog never dies. Lucy will always be with you.
aww angie i am so sorry
i know that is so hard, praying for you girl.
Oh no. =( RIP Lucy.
I just got my puppy a couple years ago too and I can’t wait to spend the next decades with her though.
Angie – I’m so sorry. Hope your heart heals soon!
Dear Angie,
My first dog got run over by a car and broke his back at just 1 year old. He would have never been able to walk again, so we decided to put him down. I was only in Elementary school, but the night he got hit is one of my most distinct memories as a child. I now have two other dogs and one is nearing the age of 10. He is very big, so I know his time to say good-bye is coming soon, but I can’t imagine life without him. I’m so glad you have other dogs and such wonderful people in your life to help you get through. Keep smiling and remember – as you read in the newspaper – she will always be by your side.
I am so sorry for your loss Angie.
Stay strong, and remember, while Lucy may be gone, your memories and moments with her will last forever.
xx
I’m sorry seems completely in adequate to say. There are no words to take the sting away from losing a member of the family. I have tears in my eyes reading your post and thinking about the animals in my life. Take time for yourself. You’re in my thoughts.
I’m so sorry about Lucy. There is no easy way to go through it. That IS a great quote, even in darker moments, please try to remember it!
I’m so sorry to hear about Lucy. It is so hard losing a pet…they become like family. My thoughts are with you.
Sorry to hear about Lucy. You’re right though, 18 years with such a special dog was a gift. Be thankful even through the hurt. Love ya.
I am so sorry for your loss, Angie. Pets become such an important part of our lives and our families, it’s just as hard when they pass away. Take the time you need to grieve and heal and just breathe. You’re in my thoughts and prayers. xoxo
Hi Angie. Just wanted to let you know we are thinking about you. I’m glad you are taking this week to deal with your loss, and do some emotional healing. Stay strong.
I am so sorry for your loss. Pets are so special. Hang in there.
I’m so sorry Angie, there is nothing like losing a dear friend. I had my cat Sheba since I was 5 and we were so close. When I lost her in high school it was just terrible. It actually brings tears to my eyes even to this day. Lucy sure is one lucky gal to have had such a wonderful life with you
